Long & Foster Companies, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced Paralegal with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a law firm or corporate legal department. 

(This position is a time certain position to start ASAP up through 12-31-18.)

Under the general direction of the Chief Legal Officer, SVP or assigned attorney, the Paralegal is responsible for ensuring that all litigation matters served on a Long & Foster company are assigned to the appropriate person for response.  He/she will assist in the coordination and monitoring of litigation obligations involving any Long & Foster company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the handling of all court or agency ordered financial obligations for independent contractors or vendors, including the response, interaction with court or creditor's counsel, flagging the account, and insuring L&F obligations are met. Coordinates updating the file and matter management system.
  • Analyzes new litigation to determine parties, issues, and actions. Subject to direction of attorneys, assigns to primary in-house counsel and/or team member and, where appropriate forwards litigation and accompanying documentation to designated outside counsel.
  • Assists attorneys in all assigned litigation matters including, to the appropriate extent, participation in discussions regarding strategy and settlement of lawsuits. Insures that matter management system is up to date with respect to such matters.
  • Analyzes E&O issues in new and ongoing litigation. Reviews and edits Company's errors & omissions insurance program and complaint coverage program materials in preparation for the annual information dissemination to all associates, managers and branch administrators.
  • Performs legal and other research as needed. Manages responses to agency or entities doing background checks on agents.  Serves as backup to other staff members as assigned.  Performs other duties as assigned from time to time by Chief Legal Officer.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree preferred in Paralegal Studies or in lieu of education, Paralegal certificate and experience
  • Minimum of 5+ years' related experience as a Paralegal in a law firm or corporate legal department, particularly with the litigation process
  • Proficiency with MS Office to include Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Must possess a high level of discretion with confidential matters and be extremely detail-oriented
  • Experience with Legal Tracker or Serengeti is preferred
  • Knowledge of real estate industry preferred
